Art Displays at the Sandcastle

The Kiawah Island Community Association invites members to attend a town-hall style meeting to discuss art displayed at the Sandcastle Community Center. The session will be Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, 21 Beachwalker Drive, Kiawah Island.

The Association presently displays the works of local artists who are Association members. The artwork is rotated quarterly to allow equal opportunity. There are some inherent challenges; for example, the frequent rotation necessitates regular patching and repainting of the walls, increasing maintenance costs. Logistically, coordinating various styles and types of art (for example, watercolors, oils, photography)can be challenging. With the second floor newly renovated, the timing may be appropriate to consider alternative ideas. The Community Center Advisory Committee has recommended the replacement of loaned art with permanent art owned by the Association. This could provide consistent style and reduced maintenance. Further they recommend that an annual art show at the Sandcastle showcase the work of Association members.

The Board of Directors invites your input. If unable to attend, you may submit comments to joe.bunting@kiawah-owners.org before the meeting. Your written comments will be provided to the Directors.
