Curbing Replacement - Traffic Alert
Update, April 6, 2006: Curbing replacement work is now complete! Thank you for your patience.
Update, April 4, 2006: Wednesday, April 5, curbing work will be done from Green Dolphin to the Bass Pond causeway. Flagmen will be present to direct traffic. On Thursday, April 6, flagmen will be directing traffic from the second Sea Forest intersection to Sanctuary Beach Drive. On Thursday, April 6, the western end of Sea Marsh Dr. will be closed to replace the valley gutter at the intersection of Sea Marsh and Kiawah Island Parkway. Traffic on Sea Marsh will be routed to the eastern end of that street with signage.
Update, March 30, 2006: A portion of Kiawah Island Parkway (between Sora Rail Rd. and the first Sea Forest Drive) will be restricted to one lane of traffic on Friday, March 31, weather permitting. In addition, sometime between 7:50-8:30am, traffic will be blocked in both directions for about 5 minutes to allow for equipment stationing. We apologize for the inconvenience to Association members and their guests. After that, traffic opens to one lane at a time & KICA Security personnel will serve as flagmen to assist in moving traffic through the area as quickly as possible. Lanes will open again as usual by Friday afternoon when the contractor's work is complete. No work will occur on Saturday or Sunday. On MONDAY and TUESDAY, APRIL 3 & 4, a new detour will be available between Sanctuary Drive and Green Dolphin Way. Delays will be kept to a minimum, and staff encourages members to allow adequate travel time. Please drive with care in the work zones.
This curbing replacement work, being done in preparation for paving of the Parkway to occur in April, is 68% complete as of March 30!
Original Notice
As part of the Association’s standard maintenance measures, work will soon begin to replace 3670 linear feet of concrete curbing along Kiawah Island Parkway. Work is scheduled to begin March 13, 2006, and is expected to run for approximately 30 calendar days, weather permitting.
To reduce delays on the parkway, detours will be established using Greensward
Road, Sea Marsh Drive, and Sea Forest Drive. Where a
detour route is not
available, one lane of traffic will be kept open at all
times, and flagmen will
alternate traffic flow.
This curb replacement is being done in advance of planned resurfacing
of the parkway, which is scheduled for night work starting in late April,
through
early May.
Delays will be kept to a minimum, and we encourage you to allow
adequate
travel time as well. Please drive with care in the work zones.
You are welcome to address any questions to Huggie Hindman, Director
of Major Repair & Replacement or Connie Samford, General Maintenance Supervisor, at 843-768-2315.
We appreciate your patience as we work to keep the infrastructure in
prime condition.
